On the second of June 2007, the tram returned to Tenerife after 60 years. Metrotenerife actived the Line 1, Santa Cruz-La Laguna, and in 2009 the Line 2, La Cuesta-Tíncer. Tenerife, like others European and Spanish cities, has a renewed public transport that is competitive and efficient. The Tenerife Tram network has 12 million passengers every year and so far it has covered 10 million kilometres.
The company has an relevant spirit of innovation. Its last technological achievement is Vía-Móvil, app that allows the passengers to travel and validate tram or bus tickets with their mobiles.
In 2011 Tenerife Tram was the first national public transport that receives the AENOR Universal Accesibility certification.
Currently, Metrotenerife works in the rail projects of the Island, the south and north train, the extension of Line 1 to the airport Los Rodeos and of Line 2 to La Gallega. And also it´s working in the future Line 3 in Santa Cruz.
