Metrotenerife donates 5,000 Euros to the Red Cross for those affected by the La Palma volcano

Metrotenerife, public transport company of the Island Government, has donated 5,000 Euros of its Social Responsibility Plan to assist the victims on the island of La Palma by the eruption of the volcano. The first vice president and president of Metrotenerife, Enrique Arriaga, and the island director of Mobility, José Alberto León, delivered the donation to Mayte Pociello, provincial president of the Red Cross in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and highlighted the solidarity that the Tenerife Tram has always shown, supporting several initiatives.

“On this occasion, we want to contribute, as far as possible, for that the people affected the recovery by their way of life and for this we have the collaboration of the Red Cross, a humanitarian institution that from the first moment is working in La Palma with its teams of emergency” said Arriaga.

Mayte Pociello Marty, provincial president of the Red Cross in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, thanked the donation of Metrotenerife and explained that “this money will cover the needs of the victims”, and recalled that “at least 700 of the buried buildings were first homes”.

This institution is developing an important intervention with support actions to the affected such as care in shelters and hotels, psychological service, cleaning of ashes on roofs, medical transport, distribution of face masks and protective glasses to the population in the area as well as the installation a field hospital, among other measures.
