The first vice-president of the Island Government, Enrique Arriaga, highlighted the nomination of Metrotenerife, operator of the tram, to four categories of the Global Light Rail Awards, the most prestigious of the railway industry. In this 2021 edition, Metrotenerife participates with its own design and patent product, ‘Removable Insulating Chamber for Grooved Rail’.
Enrique Arriaga, also president of Metrotenerife, confirmed that the company will compete in the sections ‘Best environmental and sustainability initiative’; ‘Technical innovation of the year’; ‘Project of the year’ and ‘Exceptional engineering achievement’, which is a total recognition of the creative and innovative capacity that has always characterized Metrotenerife. The award ceremony will be hold on October 6th in the city of London and will meet the main builders, suppliers and railway operators around the world.
The director of Mobility, José Alberto León, explained that ‘Removable Insulating Chamber for Grooved Rail’ offers electrical and acoustic insulation and that, for its performance, makes it possible to replace the rail saving time and without the need to carry out civil works. This product has the value of environmental sustainability because it is manufactured on the basis of a conglomerate of rubber tyre.
Metrotenerife has already been awarded in previous editions by the Global Light Rail Awards. In 2017 the company won the second prize in the category of ‘Significant Safety Innovation’ for its product Simove (Onboard Speed Monitoring System). The following year, 2018, the app Ten+VAO was awarded in the categories of ‘Best Environmental and Sustainability Initiative’ and ‘Vision of the Year’.
