Metrotenerife activates special services for the weekend of Carnival. From Friday 24th to Sunday 26th, Line 1 will be running continuously with double trams every 10 minutes during the day and every 12 and 15 minutes at nights of Carnival.
The president of Metrotenerife, Enrique Arriaga highlighted that “the tram service will adapt to the intense weekend of celebrations in the capital of Santa Cruz. The Line 1 will run with double trams without stop, for 66 hours, from Friday to Sunday every 10 minutes in daytime, which means that we will offer a capacity of transport similar to the peak hours on weekdays. And at nights of Carnival, the frequencies will be 12 and 15 minutes “.
The director of Mobility at the Government of Tenerife, José Alberto León, recalls that La Paz “will be the stop of origin and destination of Line 1 during the night service, on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th and the tram stop there will have National Police units, Metrotenerife staff, private security or cleaning and maintenance services”. He also adds that, on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th, Line 1 will begin and end its daytime service at the Teatro Guimerá stop.
Thursday 23rd: Line 1 to Teatro Guimerá
Due to the events of the Carnival, at 07:00 pm, Line 1 will only work between the stops La Trinidad and Teatro Guimerá with simple units and the usual frequencies in a working day.
From Friday 24th to Sunday 26th: service with double trams
The Line 1 will run every 10 minutes in the morning and afternoon on Friday 24th, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th, while the night services will have frequencies of 12 and 15 minutes. On Sunday the double trams will finish their services at midnight.
Stop La Paz: security point
The security point installed at the La Paz stop will be activated on Friday 24th at 06:00 pm, on the occasion of the Parade Carnival, while on Saturday 25th it will be installed at 10:00 pm. Besides, the Puente Zurita stop will be out of service for safety reasons.
During the Carnival, on Saturday 25th and on Sunday 26th, Line 1 will work between the stops La Trinidad-Teatro Guimerá at 09:00 am and the Fundación and Intercambiador stops will be out of service.
Metrotenerife points out that the use of face masks inside trams is mandatory and recommended at stops when there are many people. Apart from that, the operator will apply hygienic-sanitary measures on public transport.
